“I Can Read with My Eyes Shut” by Dr. Seuss is probably my favorite book that I read to my 2 year old daughter at night before she goes to bed. I try to read it to her as much as I can, to which I hope I am teaching her at a very young age that reading books is incredibly important to learning and growing. My favorite pages of the book read as follows:
“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go. You might learn a way to earn a few dollars, or how to make doughnuts, or kangaroo collars. You can learn to read music and play a Hut Zut if you keep your eyes open. But not with them shut. If you read with your eyes shut your likely to find that the place where you’re going is far, far behind. So, that’s why I tell you to keep your eyes wide. Keep them wide open…at least on one side.” – Dr. Seuss
I’m always trying to read more books and my goal this year is to read at least seven non-fiction books. Below is my 2017 reading list. I hope to learn and grow from each of these books, as I have done from the year’s past. Also listed was 2016’s reading list. I plan on doing a few book reviews throughout the year, which will hopefully motivate others to read the same.
Here’s to learning how to play Hut Zuts and how to make kangaroo collars. Happy reading!
