Financial Freedom

“If money is your hope for independence you will never have it. The only real security that a man will have in this world is a reserve of knowledge, experience, and ability”. –Henry Ford

I really like the above quote because it makes me think about why I pursue financial freedom. It’s not because I don’t want to work hard at a 9-5 job, or because I want to buy lots of stuff, go on fancy vacations and live in a big house. It’s more about independence.

The picture above of my daughter learning how to fly a kite for the first time portrays the true essence of freedom; the pure joy that she experienced through learning a new skill gives a whole new perspective to wealth. Doesn’t it just make you want to smile!

This begs the question of how you define wealth? Henry Ford is considered to be one of the wealthiest men in history and his quote above alludes to the idea that wealth isn’t about money.

Robert Kiyosaki says that wealth is measured in time, not dollars. He says the definition of wealth is the number of days you can survive without physically working and still maintain your standard of living.

How does God define wealth? Biblical wealth may be defined as the ability to experience and enjoy God’s blessings. Again, we see the words ability and experience.

But let’s get real for a second; we do need money to survive in today’s society. So how do we make money, but still have the time to gain knowledge, experience, and ability?

Two words: Passive Income.

Passive income is the key to gaining more time. And time is the key to gaining knowledge, experience, and ability. Time allows for me to have amazing experiences with my family and friends. Time allows for me to learn something new and then teach it to others. Time allows for me to gain the ability to perform a skill, and then use that skill to better others.

The pursuit of financial freedom isn’t about making lots of money, it’s about creating more time so we can experience the many blessings that God has provided and in turn be able to use our knowledge and abilities to serve others.

I think the holy grail of financial freedom is having so many passive income. This way you will never worry about your financial needs because everything is taken care of your assets. You will have all the your time in the world and visit all places you dream about. You have your time and money. This is the dream of most people which only few ever achieved.
