It’s not about me.

This simple sentence was one of the first things I read this morning as I opened up the latest version of Rick Warren’s book “What on Earth am I Here For?”.

It is Thanksgiving morning and as I started to write down the list of what I am thankful for, I had to stop and do a reset.

Today isn’t about me.

It’s about others.

It’s about what God has provided.

And it’s about what God has in store for us.

I read another quote this morning that somewhat ties this together: “Not what we say about our blessings, but how we use them, is the true measure of Thanksgiving”. – W.T. Purkiser

We can all be thankful for our families, our friends, our health, our wealth, our successes, our failures, good food, good times, a roof over our head, and the yummy cup of coffee we had this morning. But how are we using these blessings to truly measure our thanks?

“We must never forget that the highest appreciation is not just to utter words, but to live by them”. – John Fitzgerald Kennedy

So, as we spend the day with family and friends, eating turkey and watching football, let’s think about how we can truly measure our thanks today.

Use the many blessings that God provides to do something bigger than just you.

Measure thanks through action.
